McNee

Founder and
CEO
Mr. McNee is the President and CEO of Saugatuck Technology, a business and market strategy consulting firm focused on emerging IT markets, and executive research/advisory services. Most recently, Mr. McNee has helped spearhead the firm's research into evolving business models as a result of the shifts to software-as-service, open source and cloud computing. 

Prior to founding the firm in 1999, Mr. McNee spent eleven years with Gartner, Inc., most recently as Group Vice President and Research Fellow, responsible for guiding the firm's overall research strategy. A recognized expert in software, services and eCommerce strategies, Mr. McNee spent five years leading Gartner's Business/IT Management practice as its Director of Research, focusing on CIO governance, IT sourcing models and eBusiness management strategies. Previous to this, Mr. McNee headed up Gartner's Product Strategy organization, after successfully creating, launching and managing a number of profitable new research and consulting products, including the Industry Trends and Directions (ITD) and Software Asset Management (SAM) services. A frequent speaker at industry conferences, Mr. McNee has published hundreds of articles and consulted with thousands of user and vendor clients over the years, throughout the world.

Prior to Gartner, Mr. McNee held strategic planning, business development and marketing positions at CBS, HBO, Comshare and the Institute for Social Research. Mr. McNee is a Board or Advisory Board member for a number of emerging and established technology companies as well as the Westport Public Library. Mr. McNee is a University of Michigan alumnus and has completed graduate work in economics at New York University.

Bruce T. Guptill
Managing
Director
Bruce Guptill is a Managing Director for Saugatuck Technology, responsible for research strategy and operations. A recognized expert in CRM, IT ROI and eServices, Mr. Guptill is a frequent speaker on focusing on market development, partner development and relationship management strategies. Most recently, Mr. Guptill has been focusing on utility computing and software-as-service strategies, business performance management and vendor strategies related to SMB and vertical markets.

Previously, he co-developed the Partner Relationship Optimization (PRO) advisory service offered by Robert Frances Group of Westport, CT. Prior to co-founding PRO, Mr. Guptill served as vice-president of marketing at Tallán, Inc., a $100 million custom development and e-business services firm in Glastonbury, CT, where he directed advertising, marketing, communications, and vendor partnerships. 

Mr. Guptill joined Tallán after several years as vice president and research director at Gartner, Inc., where he developed and managed advisory and consulting services on e-commerce and IT business strategies, partnerships and alliances, and the business value of IT investments. Mr. Guptill joined Gartner through its acquisition of New Science Associates, where he developed e-marketplace and telecommunications advisory services. Mr. Guptill began consulting as a senior associate with TeleChoice, Inc., developing carrier channel strategies and telecom hardware vendor strategies. 

Before joining TeleChoice, Mr. Guptill was an editor, writer and marketing consultant for International Data Group (IDG) publications including NetworkWorld, PC World and MicroMarketWorld. Mr. Guptill began his career in sales and marketing for computer VARs and industrial/commercial mechanical systems manufacturers. 

A frequent speaker on technology, business and market strategies at dozens of trade and industry conferences, Mr. Guptill has written and published hundreds of articles and research papers on technology markets and strategies. He has been featured on CNBC, CNN, FNN, MSNBC, CBS and ABC radio and local radio and television stations in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. He holds an MBA in marketing and finance, and a BA in mass-media communications/applied psychology.

Paul S. Parker
Vice President & CEO
Paul Parker is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Saugatuck Technology, with more than 30 years of related experience.

Prior to joining Saugatuck, Mr. Parker spent four years as CFO of two start-up companies, Quick Compliance Inc., an e-learning company specializing in the Healthcare industry (which was successfully acquired by How-Stuff-Works in 2006), and BPS, Inc. an electronic funds transfer company. Previously, Mr. Parker spent nine years at Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT), a IT research advisory and consulting firm, most recently as Senior Vice President of Finance responsible for worldwide financial operations. Previous positions at Gartner included direct responsibly for Financial Planning and Analysis, Product Delivery, Production, Purchasing and Facilities. Prior to Gartner, Mr. Parker worked at Primerica and ITT Rayonier in their accounting and finance organizations. Mr. Parker holds a BA and MBA from the University of Connecticut.

Michael G. West
Vice
 President

Michael West is Vice President with Saugatuck Technology. His areas of research and consulting expertise include Cloud Computing, “Enterprise Ready” SaaS, ISVs in transition to SaaS, Cloud Development platforms, SaaS Integration, Social Computing platforms, and GRC. 

In 2000, Mr. West joined Saugatuck as an early co-founder after leaving Gartner, Inc., where he served as Vice President and Research Director. In 2004-5, Mr. West spent a year in Washington, D.C. at the Corporate Executive Board as Practice Manager of the Information Risk Executive Council, before returning to work at Saugatuck and re-focusing his interests on Software-as-a-Service and Cloud platforms. 

Mr. West has over twenty years experience in Information Technology at John Hancock, Fidelity Investments, Apple Computer, and Gartner. He is a frequent speaker at conferences and other industry events on a wide range of topics concerning technology and business strategy. He has written and presented research on information management, data administration, applications development, application integration, object technology, client/server architectures, graphical user interface and usability strategies, web site development and Internet applications, network computing, electronic commerce, portals, hubs and communities. 

Mr. West has an A.B. from Williams College , M.A. from Johns Hopkins University and M.B.A. from the Boston College Graduate School of Management. He has taught IT Strategies in M.B.A. programs at the Boston College Graduate School of Management and at the Haas School of the University of California at Berkeley.

Mark A. Koenig
Vice 
President
Mark Koenig is a business and technology strategy consultant with more than 20 years of public and private sector experience. He is a recognized subject matter expert on enterprise software, and helps lead the firm's Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Social Computing practices.

In addition to researching and publishing extensively on these key disruptive emerging forces, Mr. Koenig has helped lead research studies and programs on Corporate Performance Management (CPM) and Business Intelligence, Mobility, Enterprise Modernization, SMB Technology Buying Behavior, Real Time Infrastructure, SOA, Packaged Applications and Storage.

Prior to Saugatuck, Mr. Koenig spent eight years at KPMG Consulting, where he delivered a wide variety of services to public sector clients of the firm, ranging from strategy and solution design, to business and project planning, to implementation. He also designed and led the development of a next-generation On Demand eProcurement platform and architecture for the Public Sector.

Mr. Koenig has a Bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy from Williams College, and a Master's degree in Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Management. He has been a guest lecturer at the Columbia Graduate School of Business and the Yale School of Management.

Charlie Burns
Vice
 President
Charlie Burns is a Vice President for Saugatuck Technology, focusing on enterprise software, business/IT services, and IT systems technologies and management. With over 35 years of experience in the Information Technology arena, Charlie is an established expert in IT product and marketing management, and in IT user issues and requirements.

After 26 years with IBM, where he held positions in sales, product development and large systems product marketing, Charlie left to become Research Director at Gartner Group in 1993. In 1998 he joined Giga Information Group as Research VP. At both Gartner and Giga, he focused on large systems and the business practices of the major large systems vendors. In 2000, Charlie rejoined Gartner in a relationship management role responsible for two of its largest vendor clients. 

Charlie received a BS in Computer Engineering from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio. Over the years, he attended a variety of IBM technical and research training programs, becoming an adjunct professor focusing on product management issues.

Albert E. Vanek
 Director

Al Vanek is a Senior Director of Business Development for Saugatuck Technology. He is responsible for developing long-term business relationships with major clients of the firm. Mr. Vanek is a seasoned sales and management executive with more than 25 years of experience in the Information Technology market. He has led major account, regional and national sales organizations over his career, including an organization focused exclusively on providing information technology and e-commerce solutions to the Healthcare Industry in the United States.

Prior to Saugatuck, Mr. Vanek was Vice President and Group Account Director at Modem Media, an interactive marketing strategy and services firm, and Director of Business Development at Viant, an Internet consulting company. Earlier in his career, Mr. Vanek spent fifteen years at GE Information Services, in sales and management roles with increasing scope and responsibility. He started his career at Burroughs Corporation in the sales organization, spending his last five years there with responsibility for large systems sales and account management within New York State Government. 

As appropriate, given his prior experience, Al contributes to various client engagements, especially those that are at the intersection of IT and media, and those related to internet-enabled application delivery and software-as-a-service. 

Mr. Vanek has a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Binghamton University and a Master's degree in Mathematics from SUNY at Albany.

Andrew
Jeffs

 Director
Andrew Jeffs is a Senior Director of Business Development with Saugatuck Technology. He is responsible for growing sales and revenues within major clients and with prospective clients of the firm. Andrew has over twenty years sales experience, with a solid history of developing, establishing, managing, and growing strong client relationships.

Prior to Saugatuck Technology, Andrew Jeffs was the Senior Vice-President of Business Development with 3SIX0 Advisors. Andrew’s expertise in sales and marketing effectively positioned him to work with clients across multiple industries. Earlier in his career, Andrew worked for over 10 years with Gartner, a leading research, advisory, and consulting firm. In his role, Andrew focused his efforts on maintaining and growing Gartner’s research and consulting revenue into small, medium, and large enterprises across multiple industries. Andrew specialized in working with technology firms, related to growth strategies. In his career at Gartner, Andrew’s role migrated from a regional role to a global account management role, with focus on key global accounts. He started his career at Lanier Corporation, with a responsibility to grow sales and revenues of document management solutions and services.

Andrew has extensive experience working with firms in the hardware, software, telecom, wireless, and technology services areas. As needed, he provides support for projects, related to business, product, and go-to-market strategy.

Andrew received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Marketing from San Diego State University.

Frank P. Sempert
Senior Program Executive, Europe

Frank Sempert is Senior Program Executive for Saugatuck Technology, helping to guide the overall growth of Saugatuck’s services in Europe. In addition, Mr. Sempert will lead the firm’s business development efforts in Central Europe, with a focus on Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Since 2002, Mr. Sempert has been an independent Management Consultant, advising a variety of both small and large European technology providers concerning sales & marketing strategies, setting up off-shore development, identification and selection of venture investors, and occasionally acting as an interim CEO.  He is a very active board member for the Open Source Business Foundation (OSBF) in Germany.

From 1997 to 2002, Mr. Sempert created and ran a Frankfurt-based company, SEC Consulting AG, initially specializing in Y2K and Euro projects, later in Post Merger Integration Management. Prior to this, he built up and headed Gartner Group’s Central European operation for more than five years, after a position as Managing Director of Central Europe for Informix. Still earlier in his career, Mr. Sempert held various executive leadership and sales and marketing positions with Olivetti, WANG Germany, Ericsson Information Systems and Teamco.

Mr. Sempert wrote “1999”, a book focusing on Y2K. He is the author of numerous articles and a frequent keynote speaker. In addition, he advises CIOs of large and medium companies on strategic IT issues.

Benno Scholze
Senior Research Analyst
Benno Scholze is a Senior Research Analyst for Saugatuck Technology. Located in Stuttgart, Germany, Mr. Scholze focuses on SaaS and Cloud Computing, CRM, Collaboration, Security and Green Ecosystems, as well as providing local strategy consulting and research support for Saugatuck’s European clients. Concurrently, Mr. Scholze is the Managing Director of the Technology Transfer Center for Online Communication and Collaboration at the Steinbeis Foundation for Business Development in Stuttgart, Germany. 

Prior to Saugatuck and the Steinbeis Foundation, Mr. Scholze held a variety of consulting, project management and marketing management roles for Software AG, Kuhn & weyh Software and CapGemini, and as the head of IT at GAI InformationSystems and Legenda InformationSystems. He started his career as a development engineer for CAE consulting. He is a contributing author of a book produced by VDMA Publishing in Germany on the implementation of service management systems (ISBN 978-3-8163-0554-5).

Mr. Scholze has a Masters Degree in European Marketing Management from Brunel University in the UK, and a BSC degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences, Furtwangen, Germany. He has been a guest lecturer at the Steinbeis University, Berlin

Hassan Hosseini
Senior Strategy Consultant

Hassan Hosseini is a Senior Strategy Consultant for Saugatuck Technology, with more than 15 years of industry experience. Both his consulting work and research agenda focuses on enterprise business software applications, infrastructure and supporting services, with a focus on European-specific markets and go-to-market issues.

Previously, Mr. Hosseini was Managing Consultant with Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC) in Germany, where he had responsibility for applications software and Financial Services markets in Germany and Western Europe. Prior to PAC, Mr. Hosseini spent 10 years with SAP AG, where he held a number of positions in consulting and marketing in both Europe and North America. Prior to his departure, he served as a Global Competitive and Market Intelligence Program Manager, where he designed, supported and executed market analysis, as well as competitive research and intelligence programs, focused on Latin America, EMEA, and US markets.

Mr. Hosseini received a MA in Economics from Heidelberg University, Germany and was a scholarship award recipient for graduate studies at the Lubin School of Business, Pace University, New York.

Andrea S. Goldberg, Ph.D.
Advisory Board Member

Andrea is a Research Advisory Board Member of Saugatuck Technology and co-founder and President of the HorizonView Group, a marketing consulting and services firm specializing in digital media strategies and customer loyalty.  She has extensive experience in the technology industry and, in her 25+ year career at IBM,  led pioneering work on cloud computing, energy and environment, social networking and business process services.  As Vice President of Market Insights she drove research and analyses that shaped IBM’s strategies around emerging technologies and new markets, branding and channels. She published a series of quarterly reports dealing with market trends, competitive assessments and customer analytics and served as a trusted advisor to IBM’s senior executive team.

Andrea holds a Ph.D. and MA. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from New York University and a BA from Binghamton University.  She has served on the executive committee of the Conference Board Market Research Council, as a judge for the Advertising Research Foundation awards and as a Marketing Sciences Institute (MSI) Trustee.  She is a frequent speaker at conferences, professional meetings and universities.

Sam Medina
Advisory Board Member

Sam Medina is a global information technology executive who specializes in helping companies successfully compete in international markets. In the Fall 2008, Mr. Medina joined Tata Consultancy Services as Director, Insurance Strategy and Growth, where he works with C-level executives on how to accomplish IT transformations and optimization. Prior to this, he served for eight years as the SVP, Global CIO and CTO for General Reinsurance, one of Warren Buffett’s treasured Berkshire Hathaway companies. He was a member of the senior executive team that led the integration of acquired companies into a single global and highly profitable reinsurance corporation.

In addition, Mr. Medina has served in other executive positions including VP, CIO for Xerox Americas Customer Operations from 1995 to 2000, VP, Global Planning for MasterCard International from 1989 to 1995, and AVP, International Planning and Systems for Citibank from1984 to 1989. In each of these positions he was responsible for creating high performance information technology and operations teams, and for formulating technology strategies to increase profits and market share in international markets. He has conducted business in over 100 countries, assisting C-level executives and board of directors with their technology planning and investment decisions.

Robert McNeill
Advisory Board Member
Robert McNeill is an Advisory Board Member for Saugatuck Technology, and a deep expert on technology sourcing strategies. Previously, Robert was VP Strategy for SaaS vendor Service-now.com, and a management consultant with Deloitte Consulting advising organizations across North America on IT and business process sourcing strategies. Prior to these experiences, Robert was a Principal Analyst with Forrester Research and Giga Information Group for more than six years. There he provided research and consulting services to both end user organizations and high technology vendors focused around technology sourcing strategies and best practices. He is a contributing author of a book produced by the Institute of Directors in the UK on software asset management. Robert holds a master's degree in European business and a bachelor's degree in business studies from Cass Business School, City University, UK. A native of Scotland, Robert has lived and worked in both Europe and North America.
